“RUSTY ANCHORS” STUNS AS YOS-ICS SHIPPING PUB QUIZ CHAMPS!
ICS and Youth of Shipping held their 3rd annual Shipping Pub Quiz on April 25th 2019 at “La Cage” Sports Bar at the Bell Centre in Downtown Montreal!
This year’s event was bigger than ever attracting over 100 people making up 20 teams. Two-time champion “Fish & Ships” returned to defend their title against old rivals “Gale Force” and “Buoys & Girls” and upstarts “Stern Tube Leaks”, “No Ship Sherlock” & “The Wreck-oning”. Companies represented included major ship operators Fednav International Limited, Canada Steamship Lines and Canfornav, shipbrokers Summit Maritime, container shipping line ZIM, weather routing company True North Marine and maritime lawyers Brisset Bishop. While most attending were industry professionals, a large number of students/interns joined as well!
There were 4 rounds of 8 questions each. There was a wide range of shipping questions asked covering bulk, tanker and container shipping, chartering, operations, law, insurance, ports, organisations, history and personalities. To mix things up, we also added a few non-shipping questions on Canadian geography, Montreal history and Stanley Cup hockey. Judging from the energy in the room, everyone had a great time.
In the end, a team called “Rusty Anchors”, made up largely of maritime students, stunned all present by coming in first place! The winning team take home the trophy for the next year along and will have their team name engraved for all time.
Meantime, thank you to everyone who participated in this event and helped make it a success. We are already thinking about what we might do next year to make it even better and any feedback from past participants would be appreciated. Hope you can join us in 2020!
