ICS CANADA ORGANISES
CHARTERING WORKSHOPS IN MONTREAL!!!
ICS Canada organised a special series of chartering workshops in Montreal in the Fall of 2024.
In the Montreal spirit, it was entitled
“3 Potholes on the Road to Successful Chartering”:
Problems to avoid rather than to learn about the hard way!!!
We were honoured to have
John Weale, former Vice President of Risk Management at Fednav,
to lead all three sessions in the series.
Each of sessions in the series focused on a different chartering topic
and was held at the office of a different major maritime industry company in Montreal.
Workshop #1:
“The Owner’s Obligation to Start in Time” on Sep 11th 2024
was generously hosted at the office of FEDNAV
Workshop #2:
“Demurrage, Damages & Indemnities” on October 9th 2024
was generously hosted at the office of
BORDEN LADNER GERVAIS (BLG)f FEDNAV
Workshop #3:
“Letters of Indemnity” on November 13th 2024
was generously hosted at the office of
CANADA STEAMSHIP LINES (CSL)
In each of the sessions,
we were reminded to pay attention to our arrangements and positions
and to think critically about the risks that we are taking.
The workshops attracted attendees from major bulk operators, shipbrokers and maritime lawyers including
Fednav, Canada Steamship Lines, Canfornav,
Rio Tinto Marine, York Overseas, Petro-Nav,
Summit Maritime,
Borden Ladner Gervais, Brisset Bishop & Langlois
as well as a number of ICS members and students.
It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout and active participation in the discussion!
We hope that everyone who joined found the sessions to be a worthwhile way to spend a lunch hour,
seeing old friends and making new ones, discussing common concerns and sharing experience,
all over a nice, light lunch in an impressive setting!
Thank you to all who made it possible including
Lisa-Marie Perella at Fednav, Jean-Marie Fontaine at BLG, John Castellarin at CSL
and Jane Han, ICS East Coast Representative!!!
